Possible to gaming on half screen only using same monitor?

Is it possible to game on half screen only using same monitor but very large like 29inches? Because currently I have two different size and resolutions monitors and I would like to know if its possible to game on half screen with 29inches monitor so the other half I can keep like Google Chrome on. Basically I wanna ask if its possible to "dual-monitor" but on one large monitor. Sorry if its a bit confusing and pardon my English. Thanks for any help provided.
P.S. I'm currently using Windows 8.1

That would depend on what resolutions the game supports and if it allows windowed mode.

Have you tried using Virtual Desktops in Windows? If you goal is to quickly switch between gaming and browsing. I haven't tried it but it might work.
