Hello,

I'm looking to build my first PC and I would like to upgrade a cheap $35 Dell Optiplex 755 I found; It's a mid-tower chassis. I would like to replace the motherboard, as the old one does not support the processor and ram I would like to add.

So I'm wondering if the motherboard I have in mind is a standard ATX motherboard, would it fit properly in the old Dell Optiplex 755? I'm not sure everything on the motherboard will match up correctly with the older case.

Here's the link to the motherboard I'd like: http://goo.gl/TOat7g (URL shortened because it was extremely long 😛)

If it is possible to go ahead and replace the motherboard, I would like also throw in these components. They should all be compatible but I'd like to double check.

- Intel i3-6100 // http://goo.gl/ye3bOz

- Kingston 8GB DDR4 RAM // http://goo.gl/3W6ujQ

- Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD // http://goo.gl/j91eLs

Thanks!

The best way to use old Dells is as a whole computer. The holes in the back of the case are made for each series. The 755 isn't that bad anyway. It supports Q9650 CPU, and 8GB DDR2-800 which is as fast as DDR3-1066. If moneys tight Q9550 is popular also. Cooler D9729 works, and aftermarket PSUs fit. The 305W PSU is good for up to GTX750Ti. There's usaully a little work required to get the video card to fit. With a bigger PSU ITX cards can be made to work with some trimming of parts.
forget about the dell Optiplex 755 case, 1) because the dell is BTX format, you can't use the standard ATX format MB. 2) Waste $35 for the old PC, you will need recycle it or....

Recommend to buy the new case like this to match the MB color. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811156302&ignorebbr=1 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811156341 or if you don't mind the color, this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811517036&ignorebbr=1

The point of upgrading the 755 was to save money :/

I guess you need the PC for gaming. Saving money is good point for the new PC, but you pay $35 for that dell pc, you only can reuse the HDD, and the DVD, because it is the BTX format, you can't reuse the case, PSU, the dell OEM OS. And you don't know how old the HDD is, it maybe fine or maybe die soon. Who knows.

Runing win10 64-bit Pro on optiplex755 DT

ODR845 motherboard with A22 BIOS
4X1gb DDR2
Q9550 SLB8V
no additional graphics or sound cards

This runs win10 nearly as well as my new €1500 work laptop, really impressed!!!
If you have an old 755 hanging around it is well worth giving it a go.
Q9550 €40 and DDR2 cast-offs from old machines.
