Sorry if this is a duplicate. I did a few searches but couldn't find the answer.

Is it physically possible to enable disabled Ryzen cores (I.E 7/8 Cores on a 1600x) or are they cut from the die?

If it is possible, has anyone figured out how to yet?

Thanks!

No, it is not possible. This is a common process to have cores disabled and if it were possible to enable locked cores then AMD or Intel would not be able to sell higher end products. If you want more cores, go get the 1700, it is a pretty good price right now.

Believe it or not, AMD and Intel know what they are doing. If it could be done, it would have been done a long time ago.

If you have a locked processor, there is no (official) way of unlocking it. Some people were able to do it in the FX chips but for the Ryzens, there is no way (as of yet).

If you have an unlocked chip,

You need to go into the BIOS and look for "Down core Control". It's usuall under overclocking (OC) settings. Depending on your mobo, you might need to update your BIOS first and if you're unlucky get it flashed. You can run it at 1+1, 2+0, 3+0, 2+2, 4+0, 3+3 and All cores (Ryzen 7). CPU Core Scaling is what this option is called.

Note: You are solely responsible for everything you do to your processor/rig. Tampering with it will void your warranty.

Sorry, but it depends on how it was disabled. When AMD disabled cores in the past they used firmware to achieve this. A Firmware block is relatively easy to defeat (like all you have to do is flash the ryzen 5 to a ryzen 7 firmware). If AMD continued with their old practices, then it is possible if the cores are not faulty. If they instead disabled by cutting up the cores (like intel does because they are shitters), then it would be impossible because the cores are damaged beyond use.
