Possible to wire a toggle switch to a momentary button?

So here’s the issue, with my motorcycle I have to use a garage door opener to get it out. It is a pain to constantly get the garage door opener out of my pocket with my gloves on after riding. What I would like is to install a switch on my handlebars so it’s always ready to easily be pressed. They make specific products to do this but they are incompatible with my garage door. So the next best option is to buy an aftermarket switch, solder it directly to my garage door opener and hide the opener under my seat, mount the new switch on the handlebars. That I can do and it’s no problem. However, there is no handlebars mounted momentary switch I can find that would look good and fit the look of my bike, they all look cheap.

There is however, toggle switches that look great, are made out of aluminum and black that would be perfect. The problem is my garage door opener has a momentary switch, press it and it sends a signal then it releases and continues to send a signal for 5 seconds before it stops. I’ve taken it apart and found where I would wire two leads from the toggle switch to it pretty easily. I don’t know a ton of the logistics on how switch work. But I assume if I were to wire a toggle switch to the contacts and I flipped the switch it would act as if I were pressing and holding the button correct? If so all I would have to do is flip the switch to send a signal, then flip the switch again and after 5 seconds the opener would stop sending a signal, correct?

The switch I’m looking at has two wires, one for positive and one for negative, it’s made to toggle headlights high to low beam, if that information helps any.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Yes...it would act as if you were pressing and holding the button.

...and yes...all you would have to do is momentarily flip the switch.

...and as far as the switch you have toggling high and low beams....a switch is a switch so that shouldn't matter. Although THEY DO SELL MOMENTARY TOGGLES.....although maybe not the style you're looking for.

Thank you for your reply. I am aware they are sold, however I cannot find one that will cleanly mount on motorcycle handlebars. The ones that do usually have a metal clamp on the back side and does not offer a clean/factory appearance. The ones ones that offer that appearance are toggle switches unfortunately. I have searched endlessly for hours trying to find something but I could not. Which led to me this solution as the only option if I want to keep a clean appearance.

The main thing is the housing and the way they clamp on. I thought about replacing the toggle switch in one of the housing with a momentary switch. But I'm afraid that taking the housing apart and finding a switch that will fit the existing hole will be difficult. I do not have a parts store near me that I could go and test fit parts, it would all have to be ordered online and I just don't want to go through that trial and error.

Again thank you for your response and confirmation that that is how the switch would act if wired as I described. I assumed it would, I just couldn't find any information online about it and wanted some confirmation it might work before I go through the process of ordering, wiring it up and installing it only for it to not work.
