Possible Upgrade For Gaming PC CPU

Hello,

Recently I made a post asking about my lack in FPS in some games. I have gotten an answer that told me that my CPU was not really 'up to date.'

I wanted to ask what CPU I could upgrade to.

My Rig Now:
-GTX 1060 3GB
-16GB DDR3 RAM
-AMD Athlon X4 860K

My current motherboard only supports AMD chips, so I also need a new motherboard that will fit my GPU and RAM.

I am looking for an Intel CPU.

My price range is 250-400 Euros

If possible, please send multiple options at different price points, and perhaps attach links to the items.

Side Note: I am not looking for a fancy looking Motherboard and CPU. No LED's and such.

Intel is tough to justify at the pricepoint.

But you're right at the 400EUR upper end, *only* a quad core and still need an aftermarket CPU cooler.
You could drop to a locked i5, but you sacrifice a bit of clock speed.

Alternatively, AMD Ryzen offers a great price/performance.
You could have a 6core/12thread option

Both benefit greatly from overclocking; but the stock cooler is sufficient.

Personally, I feel the Ryzen5 1600 is one of the best options available right now..... especially given the price.

The Ryzen chips will pretty much sh@t on anything that isn't a 7700k in gaming at that price point. Alternatively Barty1884's parts list was a sound list, and he gave Intel and AMD solutions. The AMD solution will be a more futureproof as even the 7700k is topping out all 4 cores when gaming, while the Ryzen multicore systems are breezing along, albeit with a slight 5-10% fps count. When the OP starts rating down people because he doesn't like advice given, it gives the impression he knows more than the people he asking. I rated him back up because the advice was solid.

It's all good. I'm not a AMD zealot, but for your budget his builds are solid gaming platforms and leave room to expand if you wish to begin other tasks such as editing, streaming, twitch, etc. Your fps will suffer, but I've seen enough benches to know that at 1080p/4k gaming you will be well withing tolerance and very acceptable frames.
