[SOLVED] Possible upgrades

I’m currently running a i5 7400 & in the future I’d like to upgrade my cpu.. Could I go with a i7 8700 or maybe an i7 9700.. they all use an 1151 socket.. I was just wondering if it could be possible to do without running into any issues.

check the motherboard cpu supported list. not just by the socket

short answer is any motherboard that work with 7th intel, will not work with 8 or 9th gen

I'd wait a few months to see where Intel's 500-series motherboard pricing will settle and for more board reviews to come out, then get an i5-11400(F) with whatever B560 motherboard has everything you need on it. If you have DDR4 in your current system, you can reuse that until you can get something more appropriate (ex.: 16GB of 3200-16 if you don't already have 16+GB) for a reasonable price.

Yeah I believe that’s what I’ll do...& I just ordered 16 gigs of ddr4 3200 to go with what I have now.
