Possibly a bad pci express slot.

Hi everyone today when I switched my pc on there was no display on monitor although similar instances like this one have happened n the past and tightening the gpu power connectors and reseating the memory usually fixes the problem but unfortunately this time it didn't work.
So I tried the onboard display which seems to be working fine.Next I tried the second pci express slot which also seems to be working fine.So far it does look like my primary pci express slot has gone bust and I also have reason to suspect the motherboard as I have rma'd it in the past for a busted ram slot but can it be that this time the psu might be at fault as the non working pic express an x16 slot 3.0 while the working slot is an x4.0 slot at 2.0.
I would appreciate input from you guys especially the ones who ran into problems similar than mine.Thanks.

My specs:
i5 2500k
Asrock b75m
Seasonic 750 watts psu
Sapphire hd 7970.

Seasonic is a top quality psu. I would not think that would be the cause. Particularly since your card runs ok in the X4 slot.

Try reseating your graphics card in the primary slot again. Perhaps try laying the case on it's side so that there is no leverage on the card. Sometimes, the weight of the power cables will let them loosen up. Some cases will have a support arm for the back end of the graphics card.
If your card seems to sag a bit at the rear, you can try tying some string to support the back end.

Your graphics card and monitor should be ok since both work elsewhere.

If you get no joy, RMA the motherboard again.

Thanks for your replies.
@geofelt actually I had to take the mobo out of the case as the card is a bit big to fit in the secondary slot when inside the case and thanks for that string trick, looks like I'll have to rma the motherboard again.

@chunkymonster my thoughts exactly on getting a new motherboard so that I can finally overclock my i5 also I'm a bit disappointed with Asrock this time.
But unfortunately I'm a little tight on cash bro but hopefully soon.

Thanks again,I'll update once I get back my motherboard.

@geofelt pretty bad actually the last time while I gave the motherboard for a bad ram slot they took almost 3 weeks to fix it.
This time though the fixed the motherboard in under a week But It took some force and request from my part to make them work faster.
Are you from the USA? What's the situation over there regarding time in rma'ing pc parts?
