System went from occasional crashes and cold boot fails to now dying after several seconds in post, fans and drives spin then powers off allreadyvswapped PSU tried one ram Stik no changes. What is likelyhood of motherboard versus CPU. Just debating if I should swap Mobo or just upgrade both.

Solution
any beeps?

step 17.
if you need you can make a diagnostic speaker for testing

canned diagnostic speaker rant
The diagnostic speaker is the motherboards main diag feedback device.
the motherboard may be telling you where the problem is.
my speakers have this plug

I use lamp wire but any stranded wire will do. literally any stranded wires. strip one end like so

attach the stripped end into the speaker spring clips on the speaker.
the other end of the wire should be trimmed like so the semi strip...

by doing a semi strip the wire case is now the socket.
plug one wire to the first pin, and the second onto the fourth pin.
power on the system and listen for beeps

with a speaker connected are you getting any beeps? check the motherboard makers page for beep code meanings.
try forcing a beep code, remove the RAM and boot the motherboard, the motherboard will not like this and beep the "No RAM" Beep code at you. if you cannot force a beep code from the motherboard, it has been my experience, that the motherboard is dead.
