Postcard from Torlan

I've been hanging around the demo servers playing Torlan for a little
while and I've noted some things.

1. It's not big or clever to use the "Clear" skin online so stop it. I
have removed it from my computer now so it doesn't work against me
anyway.

2. Whilst there is only one seat in a Manta, you can get a very large
number of people on it. To make it easier, last one on gets to drive.

3. No-one likes music played down the microphone or someone going on
about school, work or what they want for Christmas. Stop it please.

4. Don't complain about "campers". If I hide and you come along, then
you are fair game.

5. When your team gets thrashed, don't complain about "noobs". If you
don't want "noobs" then don't use the demo servers.

6. Its not big or clever for an experienced player to play on demo
servers frequented by "noobs" 😉

That's still not me. Middle of the scores (or sometimes at the top
with a very severely beaten "noob" team but at that point, they need
me along).

The complainers are the ones giving out all the orders. Napoleon
complex. On other servers, they would get told where to stick it.

So, turn off the VOIP...

Exactly as I said but they still do it.

It is useful when it's not abused.

That's right. The spread of scores shows this. They can go from three
figures to minuses in the same team.

Whilst not a good player, I an play strategy well and I've seen new
players copy what I've done, such as sticking the hellbender in the
hollow or bushes on the slope near the power core so as to shoot at
the first node whilst trying to avoid the attention of the Avrils and
the Goliath coming in from the second node.

I've even seen players copy me after I've stuck spiders to my Manta.
Whatever happens, no-one has the right to bitch about new players,
especially on demo servers.

I also find this very annoying, but you can disable communications from
specific players. A very nice feature.

No kidding.

Not you, of course (the others).

If one team storms another (the worst I've seen on Torlan is that one
took it's nearest node and got no further), then it's a poor game for
everyone. Winning is not the sole issue.

Ohhh I totally agree, "in the game for the game" A good battle just in
defence can be very nice (Dria is one good example amongs many).

It's sad, but I've seen a couple games where the other team didn't even finish
charging their nearest node before we took it...
