First of all, thanks for any help given; I appreciate it! Now, I'm considering getting parts for a computer for Christmas (with Black Friday coming up and all, now's the best time). I've never built a computer before, but I've watched many tutorials, and I thought it would be good experience for me, as I want to major in video game design in college. Anyways, here's the PCPartPicker list I made. I'm considering ditching the CPU water cooler, considering I've heard that the stock cooler is generally fine. Another thing I was considering is swapping out the motherboard for a Gigabyte UD5.

Thanks!

i suppose you ve picked i7 4820K since it has 40 PCI-E lanes . Unfortunately , 4790K is faster than i7 4820K even in SLI/Crossfire , regardless of PCI-E lanes . I.e. the slower one is slower . 4820K is only quad core and is clocked slower than i7 4790K . This is the reason . So , here is what i suggest

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($299.98 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: Asus Z97-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($129.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($59.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($59.99 @ Newegg)
Storage:...
Neither.
Build 1:
1) Your HDD costs WAY TOO MUCH. A regular WD Blue runs around $50, not 100.
2) RAM costs way too much. There's much better speed RAM at $60.
3) The GPU sucks.

Build 2:
1)Why X79?
2)The PSU sucks balls.

Here's a good one:
