Hello!

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Acer+-+23%26%2334%3B+Widescreen+Flat-Panel+LED+HD+Monitor/4979838.p?id=1218587042084&skuId=4979838

I recently bought the monitor listed above after my previous monitor (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009162) broke. The previous monitor displayed crystal clear videos from just about any source, from games to YouTube to BluRay.

This new monitor, however, displays videos in a rather grainy and "pixelated" quality. I'm not sure why this is.

At first, I noticed that the monitor was listed as Generic PnP in the device manager. I went to the Acer website and downloaded the driver they have listed for this monitor and updated it. Nothing changed. NOTE: In playing around with setting, the device manager has since reverted this back to Generic PnP Monitor. Not sure why, and I am unable to get it to "change" back.

I changed the overscan settings in CCC to get rid of the inch-thick box around the screen. That didn't seem to be the issue.

Does anyone know what may be my problem here?

This could be a number of things. I would go into the Display manager in the control panel and make sure the resolution is set to 1920x1080. Double check that this is the same setting on your graphics card control panel. Also look for and turn on any anti-noise features. If your contrast is set too high this might also be exacerbating the problem, try setting the display to a "standard" setting and see what it looks like.

Did you connect it with VGA/DVI or HDMI?

HDMI. The resolution is correctly set in the Display Manager as well as in the Catalyst Control Center. The anti-noise features are turned on and cranked up all the way. I didn't touch these yet. Should I turn them off? I will take a look at the contrast settings when I get home from work.

I was wondering if this could be an issue with the Catalyst Control Center update.

I had not used my computer in over two weeks due to my first monitor breaking down on me, and as soon as I hooked up this new one and rebooted the computer, the CCC updated to 14.2. I did a little digging around and it seems as though many people are having issues with this update and the graphics in their games. I haven't read of any issues with HD videos displaying blurry or pixelated however, although I doubt most of the people posting about these issues care about the issue beyond the games they are playing.

I want to try and roll back the drivers and CCC to an earlier edition, but I'm worried about uninstalling display drivers and what effect it will have on my computer.

I wouldn't think that it is the videocard drivers, but if you want to roll them back it's not a big deal and not likely to damage your computer. Directions will be on the AMD site, just make sure you uninstall the old drivers before you install the new ones.

If possible I would suggest trying out the monitor either on another computer or even hooking it up to your cable box to see if it still looks grainy to you. Also try out another HDMI cable if you have one.

I'm not sure if that monitor is Matte or Glossy, but you might be used to a gloss monitor and the matte coating could make it appear to be "grainy" to you.
