[POWDER] Intrinsic Speed?

I've been playing POWDER on my DS for a couple of weeks now, and am enjoying
it thoroughly - I'm a little bit puzzled about the speed intrinsic, though..
If I eat the corpse of a bat, I get the message "You quicken." (Which I
assume means I have obtained the speed intrinsic temporarily). If I try on
what are later identified as speed boots (when I die, or via a scroll of
identify), I don't seem to get the same message - is this intentional
behaviour?

Other than that though, I'm having a really good time with it - the
interface is perfectly suited to the GBA/DS, and the deity system is awesome
(I like the fact that I can never *entirely* count on my god to help me out,
and I run the very real risk of a rival god taking out his frustrations on
me 😀 )

Cheers,

Ben

So it works on the DS? Excellent! I haven't yet had the chance to
purchase one and try it out. Not that there is any particular reason
it shouldn't work, but it is nice to have confirmation.

Yay!

This is currently intentional behaviour. You don't get any of the
intrinsic gain messages for wearing items. It would make it a bit too
easy to identify rings of fire resistance then.

An exception may be made for things like speed in the future, however.
Speed is a visible intrinsic, meaning that you can tell if other mobs
have it by looking at them. Thus, it would seem only logical to give
the user a speed message when wearing the boots (and also auto-id).
For now, if you Look at yourself (Start, cursor to Look command, hit
Select, target yourself, hit [A]), you will see "You are fast" in the
description of yourself that will allow you to id the boots.

I'm very happy you are enjoying the deity system. I'm very happy with
the feel I created myself, so am glad that others like it.

Are you comparing it to the GBA SP? I know the GBA SP makes a huge
improvement over the original GBA (even if you install the
afterburner).

I should be worried. If Nintendo makes their screens too good, what
can I blame my icons on? :>

Will do. I need something for boring commutes, after all :>

And it looks lovely - the proper backlighting makes the tileset look a whole
lot better :)

That's fair enough, I think - Nethack obviously treats things similarly, and
I think the formula works quite well.

Ah, I wasn't aware you could do that - my first spoiler, hooray :)

Keep up the good work, I've finally found something to occupy me on my
boring lunchtimes - thanks again :)

Cheers,

Speaking as a Linux player, I *like* your icons.

Yeah, the backlight on the GBA SP tends to make things look really washed
out - the DS screen is frontlit, and compresses the image slightly (the
pixels on the TFT seem to be a lot more densely packed), making everything
look a lot crisper and more vibrant.

You could always switch to ascii characters? 😀

Cheers,

Wow. That sounds like the same sort of improvement from the GBA to GBA
SP. There, too, things became crisper and vibrant. Must resist urge to
go buy a DS...

I've been tempted, but I can't for the life of me think what character
I should use for Tridudes :>
