Hi Friends,
Recently a storm struck my home and I lost a bunch of computer equipment. In specific, wireless radio, router, a couple of switches, a couple of network cards in different computers, a phone line, a breaker that the provider had and so on and so forth. This has happened before, but not to this scale. I was rushing to make it home and unplug everything, but I was too late and lightening struck 10 feet in front of me on my way in the laneway.

My router and one switch was on an APC surge protector, but as I mention, was fried despite this.

My question - is the only answer to this to run like mad and unplug everything every time there is a storm? Surely there must be a better solution?

I'm hoping someone who really understands this stuff can provide a solid explanation. I'm very curious.

Thank you.

Solution
A hit like that it won't matter.

Get the Power company out to check things out and a electrician to make sure everything is up to spec power and grounding wise.

Happened to me also a long time ago, direct hit, fried everything in the house and ,melted the main power line going into the power box.
