I've built the pc for my parents long time ago with i3 2100 / GT 710 and 4 GB / SSD , all the good stuff
For basic use, multitasking, mail, video's.

However i have a i5 2310 laying around collecting dust, but it has 95 w tdp vs 65 w of the i3 2100. That is the thing deciding the power consumption in most cpu comparisons.

Except for CPUBoss, seems the only one who measured the real power consumption and it says the i5 uses 20% less power.

Is this information accurate ?? If it is i will definetly make the upgrade, needs some new thermal paste anyways

Considering the usage case, the TDP difference is a non-issue as the i5 more than likely might not be used at its full potential.
The current cooling solution should also be able to handle the little extra heat without giving you any problems.
