I'm obviously completely out of the loop for amd64 bullshit, but will a 420W work well with just a venice cored amd64 cpu?

And if i decide to go this route while looking for a mobo, give me some good leads.. if i'm gonna do this i want upgradability for SLI/PCI-x w/ agp still. Possibly a better cpu.... eventually

Good quality 420w will be fine on an A64. Might strain it if you get dual 6800's or better in SLI, but for a single 6800 that's fine, probably handle a good OC too.

Uli has a PCI-E and Full AGP chipset but I haven't seen any mobos with it yet. Should be soon though. Other than that there aren't any mobos that have both PCI-E and AGP. A couple tried to soup up a regular PCI connection with an AGP slot, but its really slow performance and with your 6800 you'll definitely not be happy.

Definitely get an nForce chipset. DFI has the highest OC potential today but it appers to take some configuring to get going right, Epox and MSI are close behind and easier config. nForce3 if you need AGP, nForce4 if you decide to upgrade to PCI-E.

well, let me ask a honest question , obviously in your opinion..

Do you think i should just say screw it and buy nf7-s again like my current one. its only 80 bucks.. and just wait for dual core technology to mature?

And really i mean.. AN7 since they are only 4 bucks more nowadays..

Splendid
I loved my nf7-s. When I went to s754, I did it because I had a buyer for the old setup.
When I actually ran the A64-3200 in a game, I went holy crap, this is great. Now I have a 939 setup, and am still using a 9800pro. I've clocked it to the same 2.45 that my xp, and my 754 ran at. It's a little better than the s754, and a lot better than the xp.
As to dual cores, they wont have any real advantage in games, for a couple of years.
Dont tell Crashman, but my current board is an AV8 3rd eye. I still dont trust via, but I know that Abit wont let me down. I've got to say that I love the u-guru. I'm not even sure what the bios says, I do all the adjustments in windows. It even boots to the u-guru default OC.

Well as of now i have no cash for SLI and i do want that eventually.. i have built an older A64 machine with a 9800pro and it is a huge difference visually IMO.

Since there aren't any boards with agp and SLI then its not really worth to go A64/mobo set up if i can't spend it on SLI. Oh well. ;d

AN8 is only 88 dollars nowadays.. and i'll oc the shite out of my 2500 barton.
