Here are my parts;

Asus P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 (the onboard power/reset buttons don't work)
i5 2500k (OC'd to ~4.3)
Evga gtx 770
2 x 4g Corsair Vengeance ddr3
Evga Supernova 650 P2

Sometimes it posts without issue (rarely nowadays), but sometimes it does it's power cycling, where the psu tries to power on but then I hear a click and it powers down. My motherboard is sitting out on the motherboard box, because inside my case it will cycle no matter what.

The way I got it to stop cycling and post just now is to disconnect the power switch (+/-) wire from the motherboard while it's power cycling. Then it just turned on fine and here I am typing this.

Any ideas? :)

possible faulty switch? sticky?

if your pc works fine without the switch in the mobo, then it is unlikely that the psu is the issue, so you have only 2 options: switch / mobo. and a power switch is easier and cheaper to replace (for testing) than an entire new mobo.

have you entered the bios to see if anything is amiss? or updated it recently?

The chassis switch feels the same as it was when I bought it, same resistance and clicky sound.

Did you mean buy a new chassis switch or motherboard switch?

I haven't touched the bios at all. Only thing is that I reset CMOS and also removed the little battery on the motherboard as part of the troubleshooting process. IIRC, When rebooting it requested I set the bios settings so I just selected the default profile.

On that subject, my windows 10 has been acting very strange ever since. For example;

  • Windows 10 update keeps telling me it can't connect.

    Network troubleshooter tells me "resource (web proxy) is online but not responding". Already tried disabling the proxy, still the same.

    Steam shows me as logged in, but when I want to check comments on my mods it tries to verify my login information. Then it says "There was an error connecting with the Steam servers. Please try again later".
Been like this for over a week. Hotmail, Facebook, Youtube and even Steam in Google Chrome work fine, so it's confusing.

Well this is going off topic but I did manage to fix the Steam issue by unchecking "Automatically detect settings" under Lan Settings in the Control Panel. Windows update still can't connect though.

Thanks anyway for your replies SoggyTissue :)

Well I put my PC to sleep mode last night, woke up to turn it back on and now it's back power cycling. Disconnecting the Power (+/-) wires while it's cycling doesn't work anymore either.

It's really frustrating not knowing what the issue is and not having spare parts (e.g. PSU or Motherboard) to troubleshoot further.
