I messed with the bios setting on an old GA-945P-s3, trying to get it to take my newer E8400 CPU.

I did not get that working and when I put the old CPU back in, and pulled the power/battery on the mother board to reset, system powers down, about the same time I get back int o the BIOS screen to reset.

Any idea what I can do?

thanks in advance

Shut the system down, remove battery for 30sec, re-install battery and power on the computer. Also bios ffd may support the E8400 according to gigabyte, you might try to update the bios. Remember dont update through windows use Q-flash in the bios and read the manual it will tell you how to update through Q-flash.

BY GUM IT WORKEd, the old intel 1.8 is back in and I have windows up.

what is bios ffd?

I'll read the manual and look at this q flash thingy

thanks again

But in closing that chip E8400 should work with that board GA945P-s3, correct?

That is a newer bios that supports the E8400, so it should work if the bios is updated to the ffd bios. Download and install CPU-Z in the motherboard tab it should tell you what bios you are using.
It may tell you what the bios is on the post screen or in the bios .
