Hi,
I have 2 powerful case fans that draw about 36 watts each...they are like little jets :) They are rated at 12v and 3 amps...
1) Can a motherboard handle 1...or even 2 of these? I know very little about electrical components but its seems like the amperage here is the issue. I could connect directly to PSU/molex though
2) I also bought a general AC adapter for fans but its rated at 12v and 2 amps...and the adapter is heating up...is the fan trying to draw the electricity in faster?

Solution

Yeah you can draw 3 amps form the Molex no problem. You won't have any speed control but in your case that doesn't matter.
Motherboard fan headers are rated for 1amp. DO NOT connect those fans to a motherboard 3 pin connector.

You are also overloading that AC adaptor, don't do that.

Why would you use such powerful fans, they are probably overkill and sound like jet engines.

Thanks for the warning about the mobo
You're right they are loud but I have a mining rig that is overheating in its enclosure and these 2 fans move a high cfm
Will look for a better AC adapter...but I feel connecting to molex should be fine, right?
