Hello everybody,

This morning I noticed that my server (Intel NUC model NUC6i7KYK) was turned off. It wouldn't turn on anymore. I went to check the power cord. There is a crack at the top of the plastic casing of the cord.

I have another Intel NUC model NUC6i7KYK. After I turned it off, I connected the power cord (without the crack) to the aforementioned server.

The server turned on, but it didn't show anything on the monitor. After a few minutes the server turned off. But it turned on again by itself. This continued for a while.

Finally I turned the server off. I'm afraid the computer had a short circuit. Can this be solved? Or is the computer dead? What should I do?

Kind regards,

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

It's possible that the NUC might've shorted or that the BIOS on the NUC conked out. You could probably tear down the NUC and inspect the circuitry around the power input area of the motherboard and with a multimeter identify the culprit if a visual inspection doesn't reveal a blown componentry.

I'd suspect a power supply problem. Measure the voltages with a digital voltmeter.
