Power Line Network

My option to use a simple ethernet cable to connect from my router to my pc is just not going to work with the distance and the way our house is made. I've read I can use powerline adapters which would probably be my best bet other than getting a usb network adapter for my pc. My internet is already dead slow so I can't see it being worse than wifi. My question is does it count as ethernet? As I would be using an ethernet cable on both adapters right? Because my pc doesn't have any network adapters so I don't know if the ethernet cord will replace the wireless network that my pc can't connect to.

Solution
A pair of powerline adapters, plugged into same electrical circuit, should "behave" the same as a (very long) Ethernet cable.

It's very unusual for a modern-day PC not to have Ethernet port (unless you have some fancy-shmancy ultrabook).
