finally tried using power lines after I built my new computer, my old computer ran them fine and it worked fine, a year later I try them with my new setup and horrible speeds, I then tried to do a speed test on wifi ive been using for months and I get 30 to 74mbps down and around 15 up depending on what time of day it is, decided to test my power lines out and im getting 20mbps down and its not getting any better and I get 10 up. tried 4 different Ethernet cables but all cables are still providing the same speeds, the cables are a mix of cat5 and cat6 which I am currently using. tried 4 different plug sockets as well. tried rebooting and changing settings re downloaded the software the manufacturer recommend , also changed the adaptor to use the property of speed & Duplex at 100mbps full Duplex and I am still left with horrible speeds. not sure where to go from here, will post my computer specifications down below if it is any help.

CPU i7 6700K 4.00Ghz
Windows 10
Motherboard Asrock Z170 Gaming K4
Ram 16 GB Ram DDR4
GPU GTX 980TI

The reason I want to go with the power lines is I keep getting drop outs from the Wi-Fi and stutters and wondered if these would be better.

any solution would be great. thanks. on my old computer I used to run the power lines with the exact same cables i have tried today.

Solution
The computer specs are less important than the powerline adapter model. There are lots of reasons why powerline could have gotten slower, but the most basic one is wall transformers for small electronics. They can put noise on the electric lines that conflict with the powerline adapters. If your powerline adapters are 100mbit, then they are a pretty old standard. A new set of AV2 standard compatible powerline might overcome your electrical issues.
