Question Power Mac G4 install disc ?

hello!

quick question. i'm looking to wipe an old Apple Power Mac G4 i got from work. Can I buy a software install disc (like macOS 10.1.2 for instance) and use that in this tower? I saw somewhere that you can't use a disc from a different computer, but i want to confirm if that's true.

As I understand your post the objective is to completely erase/wipe the G4 as if you were going to give it away or sell it.

Is that correct?

ah, thank you!! those links are very helpful. i'm not looking to give the g4 away, but my manager said the only way i can take the computer home is if i wipe it, so logging in as an admin to reset it that way would be great.

They give out links all the way down to 10.7
Also you can use linux, there are several distros that work on a g4 mac.
Also you can get amiga (morphos) to work on an g4.
