I have power saving features in my bios. They are all disabled because I use the power saving options in Windows. Whats the difference? Is windows all I need to make my computer go into sleep mode or should I configure the power management options in the bios too? From what I can tell, my computer goes into sleep mode and hard disks turn off. Is this all I need if I decide to leave my computer on all the time?

i wouldnt turn off the hard disks. apparently it is better to leave them on all the time spinning, rather than starting and stopping all the time.

hi olrac,

Windows power management basically performs the same functions as the features in your BIOS, however you should only enable one of the two (otherwise there might be some conflicts and your machine doesn't wake up anymore). From my experiences the BIOS controlled PM works more reliable, just try both of them and see which one works better.
Check if your BIOS allows you a PM function called "hibernation", that will not only power off the HDD but will completely shut down the computer and save all data from memory in a hibernation file (reboot will take about 20 secs)
Have fun

Well I disabled the power management in the bios and am using windows power management. It works great so I won't even try experimenting. Thanks.
