I have a laptop that is being used to monitor the temperature and run webcams in a hut where a large tortoise spends the winter. I’m looking for software that will detect when the laptop is using battery and alert me by email as this will give me advanced notice of any loss of mains power and allow me to log in remotely and see if there is a problem.

I've not evaluated any of these, but a quick google search leads to...

msgbox instead of email:

Thanks for the reply I stumbled across event sentry last night. It looks like it will do the trick but it's way to complex for what I need and I need to figure out how to use it on my main pc to monitor my laptop as the laptop is 32 bit and EV is only a 6bit app. Unless of course anyone has a 32bit version laying around they can send me a link to. :) Cheers.
