No it is not, it is part of the S.M.A.R.T attributes. On some drives it is stored on a small piece of flash memory on the PCB of the drive. Other drives use whats called a service area on the disc to store it. Even if you did manage to wipe that somehow you would brick the drive.

So no you cant wipe recorded hours off a drive then try to sell it as new, if that is what you were planning. It's not like the 70s used car market.

Ok thanks, no i was not planning to sell but i got a drive that is a few years but only used 160 hours so seem to be in ok condition. I might include this in a computer im going to sell used as storage drive.
