Power problem with Gigabyte H87M-HD3

I am having some serious problems with a new build and I can't seem to get my head around what could be causing them.

I have an Intel i5-4440 paired with a Gigabyte H87M-HD3 - it ran absolutely fine for a day and then started to play up, if it goes to sleep it will never resume, it goes into a power cycle loop where the fans spin up and then the power cuts out and so forth until I yank the power cable.

The other issue is that rebooting the PC actually switches it off and it then turns on again within two seconds, as if you're doing a hard reset, the front reset switch shows the same symptoms in that the power is cut for a couple of seconds.

I started pulling components out to begin fault finding, and all that is plugged in now is just the motherboard and I get no onboard graphics at all, I did previously have an EVGA GTX 550Ti installed and that worked absolutely fine.

It's just the power issue I am struggling with, I assumed it might be down to Haswell power states but the PSU and Motherboard are Haswell compatible and support C6/C7 states.

I have a 530w Be Quiet Pure Power L8 PSU, and the RAM is Crucial Ballistix Sport 2 x 4GB 1600MHz.

Any ideas, need to try and figure out what to do next, tried clearing CMOS and no joy, flashed the BIOS to the latest version and then back down to the oldest I could get my hands on and the same result applies.

I have a feeling it's the motherboard but I'm not sure if dodgy RAM could cause these symptoms or whether a dodgy power supply could, bearing in mind if I plug the graphics card back in and the hard disk drive the system boots fine, I just have to make sure it doesn't go to sleep else it'll never resume.

Solution
I have found that sleep mode is too troublesome. It can be disabled in the Control Panel/System and Security/Power Options. My PC runs Windows 8.1 and is on 24/7.
