Hi - PC power supplies take alternating current from the wall and
convert it to direct current of varying voltages to be delivered
to PC components and peripherals.

So the current in the wall is always alternating current?
So I can use extension cables, which deliver the power from the wall to the PSU, which can only conduct alternating current?

Hi - Yes the current coming from the wall is AC. Yes, you can use extension cords.
I suggest however don't use any longer length than you need, and use a
fairly heavy guage cord with a surge suppressor attached
and plug your psu cord into it.

Hi - a surge suppressor is one of those units with multiple inputs for
electric plugs and they also have a breaker which will prevent
an excessive power surge from reaching the devices plugged
into it. Just an added precautionary measure.

Heavy guage cord is exactly that, when you look at the
extension cables, select one in the length you need
that has a thick( heavier guage) cord.
Don't get the thinnest least expensive cord or power strip(suppressor),
you don't need the most expensive either.
