Hey,

Changed my PSU to the cooler master real power pro 520w. However the sata power cables that came with it doesnt fit my ssd or hdd for some reason.
My old sata cables has a 6pin cable going into the PSU and my new one is using some sort of horizontal 5pin thing. There is however 2 PCI-E 6pin connectors in the new PSU and i wonder if mightbe able to stick my old cable in there to power my ssd/hdd. If the cable fit do you think it works or will it blow up?

Thanks

Your psu has sata power, think maybe youre getting the cables mixed up.

From that link you gave the hdd looks like this. Sata power and data on the left (Holding the drive the same way as picture) and 8 pin on the right for jumpers. Example on jumpers further down this post.

Or do you have a hdd like this? With molex (left) power and also sata power to the right.

I am not certain by your explanation, but from what I can tell your PSU uses molex cables. You will need a molex/SATA adapter. I would not use something from another PSU, you will only be asking for trouble. Here is an adapter.

I would seriously suggest you not to use any converters unless you're definitely sure they're high quality. "Molex to Sata, lose all your data".

Though I never mixed cables from different PSUs, it should be fine using a 6 pin cable with a 6 pin socket. Wait for more answers just to be sure because you won't like any hardware issues afterwards.

I'd have to see a picture of that not fitting.
SATA power is SATA power.
Standards exist for a reason.

From the specs for that:
http://www.coolermaster.com/service/support/model/RS-520-ASAA-A1/
Connector
SATA x 6

Different manufacturers use different modular PSU connector pinouts for different models, don't mix cables between PSUs without triple-checking that you get the correct voltages on the correct pins or you may very well blow stuff up.

+ 8 zillion.

If you're thinking about using modular cables from a different PSU, stop right there.

I thought so too, unfortunatly i cant get a pic right now but its very similar to this guy

Yes i think i wont try another cable so i can live to fight another day, thaks for the heads up

Picture of grey jumper. These days don't need to use jumpers to configure master/slave

Hope this helps.
