I am looking for a power strip(surge protector) that will be able to handle two machines and one monitor.DO I have to buy a very expensive one ?...does the price is an indication of how much protection you get? Thanks for the answers.

Some surge protectors offer guarantees of a certain amount. I belive APC sells surge protectors with $10,000 damage guarantee if it fails. I don't think surge protectors really do much. The ultimate saftey can only be had from a UPS (uninterruptable power supply, a.k.a. back-up battery,) that will help reduce voltage spikes and drops that effects the computer.

You dont need to spend a ton of money. If you want to do the math, check on your monitors and your PC power supplies for how much amperage they're drawing. Add it all up, and that's how much your power strip needs to be able to carry. After that, the higher the joule rating, the better.
