I need to replace the Power Supply Adaptor for my Vantec Nexstar CX External 3.5" Hardrive Enclosure USB 2.0 Interface unit.

The user's manual does not indicate what type of power supply adaptor is needed.

Please advise on the power adaptor specs so that I can purchase a new one somewhere.

Thanks

Solution
Get the specs off the original power adapter (you'll probably need a small magnifying glass to read them).

Important specs are Output Volts, Output Amps, and centre-pin polarity (usually needs to be positive '+'

I don't have the original power supply to reference.

i've got 3 of those Vantec Nexstar external 3.5" HDD enclosures

vantec has them for about $22, iirc(edit, just checked and they're no longer offered on their website) - unfortunately you're not going to find a generic replacement - it uses a 4 pin plug similiar to a PS2 plug, - i suspect they did that as it's outputing both 5V and 12V, as well as helps keep replacement sales a "captive" market

for what it's worth, it's a model PA-226 A, input 100-240Vac 0.8A, 50/60Hz, .50-80VA
Output +5V, 2A Max
+ 12V, 2A Max
Output power 34W

Thanks for the link. This ebay posting is for the 3.0 unit. I have the 2.0 unit. Is the power supply the same for both?

I have the unit that the OP is asking about, which is the Vantec NexStar CX External 2.5" Hard Drive Enclosure with USB 2.0 Interface. The power supply that works with it is 5 volts. The inside post of the power plug is positive, and the outside is negative.
