Power Supply CPU slot on motherboard

My p5z77 -v pro mobo just got delivered today along with an i5 3570k ivy. While putting it all together I see that my power supply has only a 4pin cpu connector, while the motherboard is 8pin cpu connector.

Ive been reading that I can just plug the 4pin in anyways but I am a bit wary of doing this.

Open the motherboard manual, there should be something about your problem. My guess is you can probably plug it in. It'll work.

I have the same processor as you, except I'm using and ASUS P8Z77-V LX Mobo, which also has an 8-pin CPU connector. I was lacking a spare 8-pin aswell so I did some reading online and found out you can just plug the 4-pin in and it will work fine. I was wary of it but tried it out, everything works perfectly so far, haha.

That is an old CWT made Thermaltake that's not even 80 Plus certified. Not to mention if the 12v rails are additive it's only supplying a max of 348 watts on the 12v rail. If this model was even mid quality the most it would be labeled is 400 watts. If it was a high quality unit they would call it what it is. A 350w power supply. I would not try using that piece of junk with a new Ivy Bridge system.

The 600w version was never tested but here is an in depth test of the 500w model. It failed.

You get the idea. Thermaltake and Coolermaster both sell great cases and accessories. Neither company has any business selling power supplies though.

If you want a quality power supply ( and you do since it's the single most important part of your computer ) stick with Corsair, Seasonic, PC Power and Cooling, XFX, Silverstone, Enermax, OCZ, Antec or the higher efficiency Rosewill units.
