Power supply/display problem

Recently purchased a used Dell Vostro 1510 laptop. Works great, battery holds charge for hours. If you start it up on the battery, no problem. If you start it up on the battery with the charger plugged in, no problem. But if you start it up on the battery and then plug in the charger, then the screen display goes wild. Tried 2 other known good chargers, same issue with all.

Any ideas of what to check?

Seen similar issues before and the problem was the charging board, on many systems(including yours) it requires a motherboard replacement. If you have access to a spare battery it's worth a shot.

I will replace the battery tonight and see if it helps. If the motherboard requires replacement, I might just live with the problem, as it is just a minor annoyance at this point. I will report back if the battery fixes the problem.

UPDATE: A new battery resolved the issue, thanks for the input.
