My 6 year old Alienware was hit by lightning/power surge taking out my battery back-up as well. Based on the recommendations here, insurance replaced the following:

Motherboard: ASRock P67 Extreme4

CPU: Intel Core i5-2500

Memory: Kingston HyperX 8gb

Heat sink/Fan: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus

PSU: PC Power & Cooling Silencer 760W

DVD: Sony 24X Sata Internal DVD

Video: EVGA 01G-P3-1371-TR GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi)

After installing motherboard, I connected the 24 pin and 8 pin power supply, and 2 sticks ram, I plugged in PSU and got nothing. I disconnected PSU and plugged in an old 200W I have (only 24 pin--no 4 or 8 plug) and Cooler Master fan/old PSU fan spins.

Does this mean my new power supply is bad? Have I done something wrong?

You should see if it's the right connector.. I know most are 24 pins but some are 20 pins? I hope someone corrects me.. I'm not very knowledgeable haha. However, I won't be surprised if your psu comes doa. If you're using newegg, just get hooked up with a replacement pronto :]

These are all new components. How can it be the motherboard? When I plug in an old power supply, the fans on the motherboard spin, but when I use the new power supply, nothing happens on the motherboard or power supply.
