Power supply eps CPU cable question.

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum, happy to be here.
Basically, i have a doubt about a little modification i did at the cable of my psu that powers the CPU.
First i'll say that i've been using for some time an eps cable to molex adapter, but i decided to finally switch, the reason being one of the molex partially melted. (quite predictable)
So what i did was taking a part of the cables of the adapter (the cpu requires an 8 pin connector of course) and connecting them to the ones on the power supply.
I did this for the simple reason the eps cable of the psu was way too short and i didn't want to wait for an extender to come by.
Now the problem is, the cables i used as an extension are thinner than the ones on the psu, also they are color copper, while the ones on the psu are color silver.
The cables seem the same in specifications. (300v 80 c and all the other info are the same) The only difference as i said would be the thickness.
I've already completed the job, the pc turns on and is working fine even when gaming.
To do this i just made the cables touch together and then covered them with insulating tape.
This is the link to the cables of the adapter i used:

Is there any risks considering all the stuff i stated? Is it possible that one of the cables or more is not connected properly and the pc still works fine?

Thank you in advance.

What cpu are you using?
I would not suggest you do these, you are powering 4 12v wire from 2 12v, see in diagram. and if you are two Molex are from the same line, you are potentially able to draw 4x of the allowed current from 1 12v line up stream. If you have a weaker 45w or 65w cpu it’s pbbly okay, but still suggest you should use the proper wiring for it.

To answer your question: my cpu is an I5-3570k (for now stock speed)
I don't think you understood, but no problem, i'll explain again.
All i did was using the cables from the adapter to gain some lenght, the molex have no use in this thing of mine.
All the 8 pins are connected the same way they would be normally, they are just not the original cables.
My only concern is the thickness of the cables i used and they way i connected them. (I stated how i did in the main post)

Somehow I have the feeling that the silver stuff is aluminium, I’m still having doubts regarding your connection. At least run to local hardware store and get a pack of twisted on connectors, it’s more secure than just touching. They are not expensive either, last time I checked, it’s like $5 for a pack of 10s, I think the standard wire gauge for psu is awg18, so you want to get one from that size. Connect the wire by inserting both wire into the cap, once turned in, test it’s strength by giving it a light pull, then you use electric tape to cover the connector.
