Power Supply Fail??????

Recently my computer started locking up at various points. During games, random windows fails, on boot-up. I noticed that my power supply felt really warm. Just trying something random I unplugged my secondary hard drive thinking that if it had too much power drawn from the power supply that could be causing it to fail. Now my computer works great and the power supply runs cool. Do we think it is the hard drive or the power supply being under powered?

Its the PSU, CoolMax is just a generic PSU made of really bad and unreliable parts. Don't be shocked if it does blow up

I'd reccommend getting a new PSU, something like a Corsair or Antec 550W. It'll be enough to power your system.

I know these things are bad but I don't know how they can get away with putting them on the market.
Got one that came out of a client's dead machine ( I hate Saturday calls ).
400 watts, 27 amps claimed on the 12v doesn't sound to bad, but if the thing wieghs a full pound I'd be surprised.

The only good thing of cheap PSU's: umm... .. .. .... .... oh they cheap to buy.

One of the most important components in a computer, and its usualy the one that gets the leats attention.

Great choice for your next PSU, Can never go wrong with Antec.

Unless(older antec's) the voltage selector at the back is set to the wrong voltage out of the box, then they gives out one glorious blinding blue spark out the back

yeah i saw that on the Antec forums, now they have some automatic thing

All of the good PSU's do. Advantages: no voltage selector switch and therefore no expensive "Oops". Better than 80% efficiency - saves energy and reduces the amount of heat being generated in the case. Active PFC - that's kind of technical, but it is a good thing.

Problem solved with new power supply. Everything is back to normal.
