Power supply failure

My mobo recently died and I think it may have taken my psu with it. When I hooked it up to my new mobo, a Biostar TH67B, it runs constantly, even when pc is completely shut down. The only way I can get it to stop running is to hit the On/Off switch built into the psu. It didn't do this before the board died, so I'm thinking the psu is buggered. Is this assumption correct?

It might also be worth mentioning that I have the psu completely disconnected and when I plug it in, nothing happens. While I don't know if that means anything, just thought I should mention it.


EDIT: The PSU in question is a Thermaltake Toughpower 700 AP ATX 12v 2.2 w/ 14cm fan. P/N W0105RU.

It is quite likely that the PSU runs the fan for several minutes to clear any hot air after the power has stopped.

Another thing that could be wrong is the motherboard connector on the PSu is damaged and shorts out, but that would mean the power supply starts without the power button on your PC being pressed. Does that happen?

Yes, it did. By itself, the psu does nothing, but as soon as it's installed, and I connect the power cord, the fan starts up, even without the pc being turned on.

2 More tests

Firstly disconnect your 24pin connector form your mobo, then connect your powercord to the PSU. If this turns on your powersupply is at fault. If not...........

Disconnect your Power button from your system panel, then connect your powersupply 24pin (make sure you disconnect the power cord first, you don't want a nasty shock). If your power supply turns on, your motherboard is at fault......... But if not

Now connect your system panel wires, if your PSU then turns on your motherboard system panel is at fault or even your Case power button is stuck on.

Well, it can't be the board. The PSU i currently have connected to the my new board works fine, just not enough juice for my fans apparently (had to unplug one of them). Will try your suggestions, and thank you very much for the advice.

Ahh so you know it's either your old mobo or your power switch hoorah.
