Power supply for SLI?

I have a single GTX 970 in my system at the moment but I'm upgrading everything when I get my tax return back (also my 4790 is part dead from a voltage spike, getting a 5820k since I started editing videos) and I was going to sell the 970 and get either three 980 or two 980 Ti depending on what my power supply can support. It's an EVGA Supernova 850B2 semimodular.

You could get 2 980Ti's with that psu, but it would be a bad idea to run 3 980's on a 850w psu.

Get two 980 ti, with a 3 way sli your preformance scaling degrades significantly and 3 way sli on that psu would be pushing it

I agree with above, go for two 980ti cards.

I just sorta assumed that since a 980 consumes a bit less power it would handle it, albeit probably hotter/louder than I would probably like. Thanks for saving me from my own impulsiveness.

I'm not sure how much I trust a website that lists ratings for SLI configs that aren't even possible. Why does it list a power recommendation for 3-way SLI of GTX 960?
