Power Supply Help

Hey Guys, I have decided to build a gaming PC . These are the following components :

Case: CiT Vantage Type-R Gaming Case with HD Audio, 4 Fans, Card Reader
RAM: Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 8GB 1600MHz CL9 DDR3 Vengeance
Graphics Card : Asus nVIDIA 3D GeForce GTX 550 TI DirectCu Graphics Card (1GB)
Optical Drive: Sony AD-7261S-0B 24x Internal DVDRWRAM SATA Black Lightscribe
Processor: AMD Bulldozer FX-6100 Socket AM3+ 6 Core Processor - 3.30GHz, 3.90GHz Turbo
Motherboard: Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 Motherboard (Socket AM3+, Up to 16GB DDR3, USB 3.0, uATX)
Hard Drive: Seagate 2TB BARRACUDA 3.5" SATA-III Hard Drive - 7200RPM 64MB Cache


The only thing I need left to get is a power supply, but I have NO IDEA how much watt power supply I will need Can anyone help me out and let me know how I would go about finding out what power supply I should get please, Thanks.

Use a PSU calculator like this one: http://www.thermaltake.outervision.com/
Plug in the values as per your system, and it will give you the size PSU by wattage you need. While the 550ti only needs one PCIe 6-pin power cable, I would suggest you get a PSU with at least two (6-pin and 6/8-pin) for future upgrades to a bigger card.

A good quality 500-600W PSu would suffice.

For a single 550 Ti, nVidia recommends minimum of 400W. But it is always good to provide capacity to accommodate 2nd graphics card. In this case, I recommend at least 550W. I usually pick Corsair which is of very good quality but understandably expensive.
How much are you willing to spend on the Power supply, anyway?

Get the OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W its a quality unit.
Psu's are very important part of your build, don't cheap out.

If by "good reviews" you mean customer reviews, I would say they are not good indication of the PSU quality. They usually give the feedback based on first impression, delivery speed, ease of installation, etc. Those are subjective & cannot be translated to measureable parameters.

Most probably, those same people who gave good reviews are going to be the same ones asking the forums for solution to their PSU problems.

It might be a long one but since you need to make a decision, it better be an informed one.

I suggest stick to the OCZ for a few quids more. The price is certainly worth your peace of mind.

750W is Overkill, Unles you're planning to Crossfire/SLI.
The OCZ is quite sufficient for a single GPU rig.

As I posted earlier, my personal preference is the Corsair. I have an HX620 & HX850 myself.

So would you recommend the Corsair 650 for 74pounds or the Corsair 750 for 83 pounds. Would having the 750 be too much? Is there bad effects of having too much of a high watt psu ?

Nope, there are no bad effects.
Like I said , 750w is overkill for a single GPU rig. Its just that the extra power would be a waste.
If you plan on adding a second GPU on the future, then buying the 750W PSU would be justified/

No bad effect indeed. 9 quids is nothing compared to the overall cost of the PC. To some it may matter but since you have declared money is no object, I say for the 3rd time to go for it.
