Power supply help

Solution

Yeah, that's a little light. It will probably work, but when the card is maxed out, the PSU will be beyond its 80% efficiency range. Another issue is the CX line of Corsair. They have been plagued with poor quality capacitors that tend to fail when pushed to extremes. (The GTX 980 Ti is available with 6GB VRAM and is a 250W card, if that helps any) But if you want the R9-390, I'd suggest you...

He's probably doing some kind of video editing.

Yep! Down the road, a friend of mine will be teaching me the ways of video editing! Exciting!

I'm new to building, but when it comes to PSUs, I always get suggested the same one, a EVGA supernova gs or g2, and reviews of them back up why I'm suggested them.

But again, I'm no expert, just passing on what people smarter then me have said

You may even want to go around 800W just for future upgrades. It's pretty annoying to have to upgrade your PSU every 2 or so upgrades so getting about 250 or so watts over will save you some time and money, if you plan to upgrade (which I highly recommend).

So basically I wont be able to game without changing the psu?

You'll be able to game. Just that you'll be "on borrowed time", so to speak. Eventually one of 3 things will happen. You'll start seeing shutdowns or reboots, or the PSU will conk out, or you'll be one of the lucky ones who will not have any issues. Being under powered could also detract from the system performance if the voltage drops appreciably. But that isn't as likely.
Hopefully if the PSU does die, it won't die catastrophically and ruin something else.

I think I'm going to go with this Antec PSU. I've heard some pretty good stuff about this power supply and I don't have to worry about upgrading in the future! http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371050

Wow! You go from the low end to the high end. Yep, that's a nice one. 2nd tier made by Delta.

Thank you for all your help! Take care!
