Power Supply Quality

So a while ago my CX500 took itself out in my rig, and since I was leaving for E3 the next day, I had to get what I could. Without doing any research on the trip I stopped by a Fry's on the way home from San Jose where I flew in and bough a Thermaltake TR2 700w Cable Management. Now I know the old TR2 series was horrendous but I have a newer model, so I was looking for some feedback on this. Im not going to be able to replace it, but I would like to know if it is at least adequate. I got it for cheaper than a TX650 would have been online.

In my sig. I got 700 watts over say another CX500 for upgrades later down the line.

I'd avoid it; it's not 80Plus, so it's probably overrated. Tier 5 too.

It might be OK if you don't stress it, but I'd go for something else.

A 7750 is nice and non-stressful, too.

Even though it's not a very reliable PSU, as you're basically not going to ever get above 20% of it's maximum power, I'd say that you should be fine with it, for now at least.

Thats pretty much what I was assuming, if I ever crossfire or SLI I would be upgrading the psu to probably and XFX model anyway. Since thermaltake claims it has an efficiency of 75% I assume it will get me by. Would you say it could handle a 7950? Because its either that or a 7850/7870 for my graphics upgrade.

I wouldn't put an HD 7950, or even an HD 7850/7870 on it. You've got a card that uses pretty much no power, right now, and that's why I told you that it was safe. If you get anything higher, consider buying a new PSU first.

Then you've got the bad unit. The model isn't the same one.

Looking at it they have the same voltage, the only difference is the 52A for mine, compared to 57A on the 12v rail. It should still get me though something like those cards though right?

Nope, because yours doesn't have any form of certification to prove that it can do the rated power.
