i have a corsair HX 650w modular its a great piece of kit for my pc but as people say nothing lasts forever so when the day comes that my PSU will die will it kill all the components in my pc with it or will i just need to replace the PSU?

Depends if it goes out with a bang or not, say if it shorts and the safety fails (very rare) then yeah whole new pc time, but if it just dies on you, then it's only a matter of a new Psu.

Just the psu, power supply units tend to outlast their counterpart computer components. Your pc will just shut down. As long as you properly shut down the pc, and don't force shut-down it too often, it shouldn't be too hard on your parts.

corsair makes good psu....in case your psu fails, there is very little chance that it will damage all the connected components. you can just go ahead and replace the psu only.

but just to make myself clear....if you are very very unlucky than it might as well damage the other components

If a horrible electrical malfunction like a fire or a short were to happen, a recall would occur. Corsair is not known for that, and there's relatively not a lot of heat coming from 650w. PSUs use pulse width modulation to dial down watts before too much goes to the system. if you go over wall voltage then you'll throw the fuse.

you can buy watercooled psu gear, temperature is no object
