Power supply questions about GTX 680 SLI

I was wondering if either a Corsair TX850 Watt or a Seasonic 80 plus gold 850 watt would be enough to power these specs:

Intel core i7 3820
asus p9x79
32GB Corsair XMS3 1333mhz DDR3 RAM modules
Noctua DH-14 SE2011
Cooler master HAF XM with maximum amount of 120mm fans
2x 7200RPM 500GB 16MG cache Western Digital Blue HDD
1x OCZ vertex 4 128GB SSD
2x EVGA GeForce GTX 680 Signiature 2 SuperClocked
1x ASUS DVD RW+/-/CD-RW Drive,

Plus my gaming mouse and basic keyboard, and charging my MP3 player/Transferring Data via USB2.0/3.0.

The heaviest I will hit this build with is BF3/ Modded up skyrim/ Far cry 3/ Diablo 3/ Bad Company 2/ Planetside 2/ Etc.

I will be running windows 7 pro 64 bit OEM.

Any tips on power supply selection?

Should really be no problem at all NTCCBloodworth.

Im running a 550 Watt Platinum PSU with the following:

i5 2500K @4,8ghz
16GB of DDR3 1600
2x Geforce GTX670 in SLI
Creative X-Fi Titanium
Gigabyte Z68X UD3H B3
DVD drive
4HDD's (1WD VRaptor)
2x 200mm fans with led.
4x 140mm fans with led.
2x 120mm fans with led.
1x 120mm Ultra Kaze. @ 2000rpm
1x 80mm fan with led.
2x USB HDD from WD.
4 active USB connections to phone and gaming periphals.

PSU Load never gets over 90% except when furmarking + Prime95
Even then it has an overcapacity and can be used up to 680W without sacraficing reliability.


I think you can step down to a 750w PSU. and save some $$$ and still be safe.

850W is more than enough, even 650W is enough. I would rather get a modular unit like the Corsair AX760 or Seasonic X750

For a system using two GeForce GTX 680 graphics cards in 2-way SLI mode NVIDIA specifies a minimum of a 750 Watt or greater power supply that has a maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 53 Amps or greater and that has at least four 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors.

Total Power Supply Wattage is NOT the crucial factor in power supply selection!!! Total Combined Continuous Power/Current Available on the +12V Rail(s) rated @ 45°C - 50°C ambient temperature, is the most important factor.

Overclocking of the CPU and/or GPU(s) will require an additional increase to the combined +12 Volt continuous current ratings, recommended above, to meet the increase in power required for the overclock. The additional amount required will depend on the magnitude of the overclock you are trying to achieve.

The Corsair Enthusiast Series TX850 V2 (CMPSU-850TXV2), with its maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 70 Amps and with four (6+2)-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors, is more than sufficient to power your system configuration with two GeForce GTX 680 in 2-way SLI mode.

A Corsair, Seasonic or XFX PSU in the 750 Watt range would be sufficient.
