Well I have just built this new computer.
This is what I have put together.

Motherboard: MSI K9N4 - Chipset: NVIDIA nForce 500 SLI
CPU: Socket AM2 AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ 2.6ghz Dual Core
RAM: OCZ Gold 2GB (2x1GB) dual channel 800 MHZ DDR2 - CL 5-5-5-12
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 7600GT
HDD: 1 Internal 80gb Seagate (IDE) - 1 External 320gb Seagate (USB)
CD/DVD: 1 HP DVD/CD Writer
PSU: Codegen Switching Power Supply: 375W

Once i boot my pc up I have a program called PC Alert 4 that shows temperatures, voltages, and fan speeds etc.

Everything looks fine for about the first 30 seconds when it loads. This is how it looks at first.

Then after about the 30 seconds it turns into this.

Is there a problem with the psu or am I just missing something?

Thanks

Don't think you have a PS problem, just a problem with that software. I gave it a shot once and promply shot it. Check you voltages and temp in your BIOS and see if everything is ok there.

Thanks for your quick replies guys. I did look into the bios at the temperatures. I am not sure what I am looking for, the PSU is my weakest knowledge of a pc. Here is what it shows in the bios.

SYSFAN Speed: 0 RPM
CPUFAN Speed: 3068 RPM
MBFAN Speed: 7031 RPM

CPU Vcore: 1.344 V
+12.0V: 11.774 V
+5.0V: 4.940 V
+3.3V: 3.200 V

Now do you think PC Alert 4 was just acting up or is there something wrong?
If you need more info please let me know
Thank you

I have this same problem with PC Alert, is it your 12v coming up low? , sorry actually looked at the pic, yes it is your 12v, I had this same problem with 2 different PowerSupplies, still able to play Crysis and anything else; i was thinking it might be a motherboard problem, (reporting wrong levels) but now I think it's PC Alert. Is there any other programs out there besides Speed Fan?

KJThaDon I don't know what you are trying to use this pc for games, music, etc but the ps would be the first thing I would look to upgradeing .yours.PSU: Codegen Switching Power Supply: 375W . the rest of your pc looks good.it's really a low end power supply.it's your choice.also make sure you cool your pc,good ventilation.hope this helps

The best way to test +12v voltage is to hook a voltmeter into one of the molex connectors with the red lead on the meter to a yellow wire on the molex and the other lead on the meter to black wire. Simply stick each lead in the small plug and watch what it says, this is more accurate then any software or even the BIOS will get.

Yeah I plan on upgrading the ps soon. It was the only major thing I moved over to this new pc. I figured it would be ok for now until I get a new one, I just don't want it to fail and cause problems to my board or anything else in the meantime. I use this pc for music / games and basically everything. Played crysis, Bioshock, and cod4 on here a lot recently and everything seems stable, hopefully that is the case.

@ doormatderek good to know it's not just me, maybe it is a problem with PC Alert reporting wrong..

I've taken a picture of my ps to show you guys the readings on it but I cant find the damn usb to grab the pictures, but once I do i'll post it.

Since I do plan to continue on playing games on here, you guys would suggest getting a better psu right?
If that's the case any suggestions? or what do I look for exactly on psu's? what would determine a decent psu.

Thanks everyone

KJThaDon first off tell every one that is posting on this thread how much you have to spend on this item.

next take a visit to a place like newegg and read psu reviews on different ps.

Remember that wattage alone is not sufficient. Be sure to evaluate brand, build quality, fans, rails, and warranty information when purchasing a power supply.

do some home work, and then come back and ask witch psu you should go with, don't go cheap ,and you don't have to spend you life saveing on it either.also make sure you cool the beast ? case

ask and they will be glad to help.

Why are on earth would he want to read newegg reviews? I've seen people talk about how great the 8500GT is. If you want good reviews, ask smart people on this forum, or look at jonnyguru, hardocp, anandtech, etc for their PSU reviews. I don't believe any of the user reviews from newegg, they are to often written by those who have no clue about computers.

OCZ 700W? Ok, I'm starting to believe that PSU overestimation thread from yesterday. That is absolutely overkill for a system like that. A Tier 1-2 with a good 12V rail rating at 450-550W is more than enough. Unless the OP intends to someday SLI/XFire 8800s or 3870s, that's not necessary.

Seesh.

Corsair VX450 or 520HX is more like it.

Thanks for the links Kyle I will read up on those now.
And yes I forgot to mention I do plan on SLI'ng In the future.

Right now I'm looking to spend say $75 for a PSU. The cheaper the better of course, but not in place of performance and quality. Also a modular ps would be nice.

Thanks all

Corsair HX520 is probably the best of the bunch from what you listed. Ultras and Thermaltake are hit and miss, Rosewill is generally junk, along with CoolerMaster, CoolMax has nothing worth buying in the price range(they have a couple decent higher end PSUs). OCZ is fine, but not as high quality as the Corsairs are, OCZ uses FSP for their OEM, which can be both a good or bad thing, but Corsairs are made by either SeaSonic or CWT, this one is SeaSonic, which is a very respected PSU maker.

I agree with Grave. Of those you listed, I would get the Corsair. The 520 is truly a great PSU. If any of those Ultras are a X3 series, I would run one of them if for some reason you don't like the Corsair. The X3 line is rather good. TT, "coolmax", "rosewill", etc are all junk. Its better to just avoid them. OCZ's are good, but from what I see when I read reviews their quality is starting to dip a bit. They are still good, but the Corsair is better.

Agree with everything above.

You just missed a good deal from buy.com - the corsair 550W PSU was on sale for $68 (now it is $83, still a good deal).

Have you considered the PC Power and Cooling Silencer 610W? It is quiet. It is tier 1 on those lists. It seems to be a favorite on this board as well. You missed a sale a while ago, it was $109. Now it is back up to $119. Still a good deal.

Give it a day or two, I am not saying this will happen, but they did this a couple weeks ago too. The price went up for few days , then came backdown.

Ok well I'm going to also need a 160gb sata seagate Hd ordered with the psu I choose. I have about $130 total for both...

I put these 2 packages together if you guys can help me out I'm kind of lost which one to choose.

PACKAGE 1
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1273340&sku=ULT31847
+
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2937363&sku=TSD-160AS5

PACKAGE 2

I Am thinking more towards package 2 but I am not quite sure.
The PSU in package 2 is the cheapest I found that psu. You can see the other prices on other sites of PSU 2 nowhere near this deal.
