There are some motherboards that monitor the power supply voltages and reboot / shut down the PC to avoid damage. Many times those "surges" are false positives but you can't measure them without proper (and expensive) equipment so i recommend buying a new quality power supply in the 500-600 W range (i presume overclocked CPU and one GPU). Cheap PSUs can cause instability or even damage your system.

Cheap PSUs advertise wattage much higher than they can supply. Modern PCs pull most of the power from the +12V rail(s). Still cheap PSUs with 250-300W available at the 12V rail advertise 500W power.

I don't know what you have so please write your current configuration. I'm using the CX500M with overclocked i5-4690K and overclocked GTX960, maximum power drawn is below 400W in the toughest tests.

Motherboard - Asus Maximus VII Ranger
CPU - Intel Core I-5 4590
GPU - Nvidia Geforce GTX 770
If Your Configuration Takes 400w, Then 500w Will be Enough for me
