Power Supply Tester, System Failing maybe

Hello,

How accurate are power supply testers like this one?

Or a different one if you know a good one. I've never used one before so I am not sure how good a job they do of checking PSUs.

I use a fairly mediocre PSU, it is a Raidmax RX-630SS.

I was playing a game, CPU was basically idle but GPU was at close to full usage and out of no where the system just shuts down completely. Surprisingly fast and clean too. No sounds of audio messing up, no BSOD, nothing. While my CPU is overclocked, my GPU is not at the moment as I recently re-installed Windows last week. So the only hardware I think could of caused it are the motherboard or the PSU.

Yea it isn't a very good one really. I've been looking at getting a good one with 80+ Gold or better efficiency that is more reliable for some time now but have been holding off for financial reasons but I think this will be the kick I need to finally save up and buy a good quality one.

I'm hoping that it isn't completely dead though. Still a decent backup unit if anyone else around here needs one, since I have the only PC I think that pulls more than 300w between all my family and friends. I'll try testing it with the multimeter and give that a go, saves me a few bucks on the tester.

Thanks for the suggestion i7Baby :)
