I'm trying to upgrade the power supply on my Dell to a Corsair CX750M. With the Corsair in place the machine tries to tern on, with the PSU fan, case fan and CPU cooler fans coming on. After four or five seconds they all stop. Some 10 seconds later, it tries again, but with the same results, it then tries to boot ever 10 seconds or so. The light on the power switch is yellow and doesn't turn green. Corsair are trying to blame Dell, suggestin that the Dell mother board needs a -5v pin on the 24 pin connector, which was removed from the ATX standard in 2005. Is this likely?
Mother board is a Dell OX231R. Any help much appreciated.
Forgot to add, machine runs fine when old PSU swapped back in.

First look at your new PSU's 24 pin connector and find the one hole without a pin, then check that same hole on your old PSU for a pin. If it has a pin then your new PSU wont work with it. The ATX standard was revised in 2005 but I would check just as a formality.

I'm guessing then that the cx750 is faulty, it passes the paper clip test, but it would still pass if there were a fault in either the 24 pin or 4 pin CPU connectors. Thanks for teaching me a bit more about connectors, I think the next stage is to return the PSU are there seem to be at least a few 8000s out there working with Corsair power supplies. Bit disappointed with Corsair technical support, seems very disinterested.
