Power Supply upgrade for Hp Pavillion a6110n & Graphics card

I want to upgrade my power supply, so I can upgrade my graphics card as well to possibly a XFX GeForce 8600 GT 512mb GGDR3, but I am also unsure if they come with the nescessary cables and connections for it. I feel left out when my friends are talking about Call of Duty 4 =(.

I read the article on how to determine what Power Supply to buy, but I didn't really understand it. I don't want to buy the wrong one off newegg.com and have to return it. Please help me decided which type of power supply I should get to run computer and graphics card without it exploding or something. I know I need atleast ~400 watts(I think).

I forgot to say that I want to be able to install it myself instead of going to Fry's Electronic and pay a fee for them to provide the service unless you would highly recommend I go to Fry's because I might f*** up my computer. I say my tech level is average.

Do it yourself. An Antec Earthwatts 500W PS should be plenty. Relatively inexpensive, quite efficient and cool running. Should run your rig with an 8800GT, an 8600GT will be no problem. Do yourself a favor and at least get an 8600GTS.

The earthwatts 430 is on sale and will be plenty as well, there is no "Risk" of SLI in your HP.

Why a slower card with 512MB? Low res gaming doesn't (1280x1024) need 512MB and Hi-Res needs all the speed/power it can get.

Also take into account the 8600gts with 512 ram is only ddr2 while the 256 ram is ddr3.

I have the exact same computer as you-a6110n. I ran an evga 8600gt with my stock psu for about a month with no performance problems. Upon further research I realized that this will shorten the life of my psu plus I just needed more graphics power as the 8600gt is kind of weak.

I have upgrade to a corsair hx520 psu and a BFG 8800gt oc since then. I now play Call of duty 4 and Gears of War on max settings at 1680x1050.

If you decide to go the 8800gt route, I suggest choosing a brand like like evga or xfx where you will be able to change to aftermarket cooling without voiding your GPU warranty. Your system will run hot. You will also have to add a 92mm fan because Hp is cheap and did not include a fan in the setup. Keep in mind that the a6110n is a reverse layout and I have found better cooling results by making the fan intake instead of exhaust.
I have also added a thermaltake pci slot fan right above the GPU to help exhaust hot air out of the case.

HP w1907 monitor conected with dvi-i cable

sapphire x1950 gt 256mb gddr3 memory

and I added another gb of ram so total= 3gb of ram

tv wonder hd650 hdtv tuner

I added all this stuff but I dont really see any changes in my cpu. I dont use it for games I mainly use it for web design grafic design and to watch movies. The video card says it recomends a 450 watt power supply but my original one has worked fine with no problems. I dont want to overclock my system becuse I dont want to damage anything. But I think that im not using it's full potential? Is there anything else that im missing?

Do you think I need to get a new power supply in order to see a difference?
Sometimes I see pixels that I dont see on other computers
