Power supply upgrade problems

I had a EVGA 650W modular power supply and upgraded to a corsair RMi 850w for future upgrades, hooked it all up where everything goes and pressed the power button and nothing happened, did the paperclip test with a fan attached and it powered it and the PSU fan worked a treat too so it's not that.

I was earthed when I changed the PSU but now I suspect my Mobo is fried as I shorted the power button pins and it still didn't boot. Does anyone have any other ideas as to the problem?

Check the link for troubleshooting ideas, make sure to check all the cable connections, like the cpu power cable, the 24 pin one, cooler fan, etc.

thanks, I swapped all the cables over to corsair ones and it sorted it, why can't the cables be cross compatible.

Eeeek, you're lucky you didn't fry something mixing and matching cables like that! I'm afraid they can't be used between different PSU's. I agree, it would be easier if they could!

That brand cables may don't meet the cable design guide.
