Hello everyone, apologies in advance if I've asked something stupid or am missing something obvious, I'm pretty new to all this...

I've got a build together and costed it up, the last component I need to add on is a power supply. I've looked around at the multitude of calculators on the web, and I've had some fairly conflicting results, and was wondering if anyone could give me tips or a solution based on experience etc. Most of the time I've used common sense when I've been looking at power supplies and given myself headroom as I'm assuming the calculators give you a minimum that you could run the system on.

The build:

AMD FX-4300 processor
Asus M5A97 R2.0 motherboard
8GB (4x2) Kingston HyperX Blu memory
Sapphire HD 7790 DualX OC graphics card
Seagate Barracuda 1TB
LiteOn iHAS124-14 DVDRW drive

Thanks in advance for any help!

Sure, get a good solid brand: Corsair, Antec, XFX, Seasonic.....

Get a 650watt supply for any Single GPU (no, a 7790 doesn't need a 650watter, but your gonna upgrade at some point no sense in have to replace the power supply too....)

Get an 850watt supply for any Dual GPU setup.... (any of these...)

You guessed right! I was just looking at it, actually, I think I'll go with that.

Yes, it's tempting to spend a bit extra, go over budget slightly for a modular. If, as SR-71 suggests, a 550W would cut it, I could always go modular on one of those instead.

550W WILL BE PLENTY OF POWER FOR THESE SPECS.

You could run these specs on a good 450w.

The build:

AMD FX-4300 processor
Asus M5A97 R2.0 motherboard
8GB (4x2) Kingston HyperX Blu memory
Sapphire HD 7790 DualX OC graphics card
Seagate Barracuda 1TB
LiteOn iHAS124-14 DVDRW drive

Yes, that XFX 550watter will do the job for the card you have today...... I consider it, like the Corsair CX600 something I'd replace if I went to Dual GPU's in the future or got a really highend card like a GTX780....

Ok, thanks! Probably going with that due to money.
