Hey Guys

what is the wear out rate for platinum rated PSU like this one ?

EVGA SuperNova 750 P2

Heres the system i'm trying to build soon and since i'm not going sli or do any heavy ocing then its not necessary to grab a 1000w psu . so it will be GTX 1080 + i7 6700K + TridentZ 16GB 3200 14 CAS + SSD/SSHD

750w is enough and actually provides enough headroom for slight overclocking but i don't want it to work like a 600w after 2 years . i want to keep it for at least 5 years . and ill be Gaming/Modeling and will use the system alot . What PSU should i get that will Safely work for long time and i dont have to be worried about the wearing out thing

Solution

for gaming get a 6700k or a 4790k is enough if you have your ddr3 ram and dont want to spend the extra and change if you are planing on doing modeling in the future the 5820k is better for you
also in games technically the 5820k is about equal to the 6700k but if you a very very very rarely doing 3d modeling just get a 6600k its enough

the psu is fine but for 3d modeling what programs do you use? because the haswell-e may be better then a 6700k

Max Maya ZBrush But i'm mainly gaming on that system so i want it to be optimized for gaming more than modeling . because i rarely do modeling but i might get busy after a while . but i always game and its the first priority for me

No im not talking about sudden issues that might break the PSU , in that case i can just ask for new one . im talking about the product getting old and not operating as good as it used to after 5 years of working nice and hard . i'm talking about wearing out over time due to work load

because i read somewhere that if your psu for example is 600w it will work like a 500w after 3 years of gaming and using it alot . just came to make sure i'm buying a future proof PSU that will work nice for long

Power supply degradation affects the cheapo chinese ones more than quality ones. Still i have not seen any article about quality power supply becoming less powerful (delivers less power) as it ages. So, i would say even after 5 years, it will be still a 750W power supply.

Degradation affects the power output quality in good power supply imo, like ripple, efficiency, load regulation etc. I have a 7 years old 350W seasonic still powering a dual core system with 3 HDD's, no problem till now.

Computer power supplies won't ever run out of power anyway, or hit a limit.
